A funny review of the just opened Avalon.
http://thelastalphamale.com/2011/09/19/i-have-blurry-photos-of-avalon/

The DANCEFLOOR: Huge and cavernous. mesmerizing, almost 360-view of the waterfront at MBS. The only description I can think of is ‘Star Trek meets Green House meets Thai Disco meets Old School Badminton Hall With A View’.

I went last Saturday for Worldwide Festival.

Welll... its a new place with quite some teething issues.

1. Sound cannot make it. Apart from the dancefloor, the sound is dead in the other spots of the disco.

2. Very expensive drinks. Housepour is cheap, anything above and beyond that is expensive. Like bottles would cost $50 more than a normal club.

3. Lack of toilets.

4. Details arent there, other people complain too transparent, always like looking out to the scenery. Too bright. Lifts are confusing.

5. Their music festival starts this week and lotsa big names (Chemical Brothers, Boy George, Daddy G...) are playing. Tickets cost $83?? Which is expensive... by why not pop by. Smiley Smiley

Damn, I guess I shd just stick to the usual haunts. This place is prob too atas for me. Hearing the sound sucks is bad enought, with the high price tag, I could do something better with it :p

I went last Saturday for Worldwide Festival.

Welll... its a new place with quite some teething issues.

1. Sound cannot make it. Apart from the dancefloor, the sound is dead in the other spots of the disco.

Acoustic is quite individual. It is worth noting that not all premises employ the sound-fill approach. And it's not surprising for a US originated club to go the 'On The Floor' approach and still have room to talk and hook up without shouting your throat out. Then again, acoustically, the structure is a disaster for the most proficient sound team to begin with...

2. Very expensive drinks. Housepour is cheap, anything above and beyond that is expensive. Like bottles would cost $50 more than a normal club.

Somehow I'm not surprised.. I would cry if Avalon ends up over-crowded like St James. Even NS friends I have feels that their allowance is more than sufficient for 1-2 nights of clubbing+drinks+taxi per week at Powerhouse.

3. Lack of toilets.

Haha.. the same fate as Kudeta. Would be cool to see someone on the verge of puking and slowly take the travellator to go to the Shoppes in search of a toilet. hahah!

4. Details arent there, other people complain too transparent, always like looking out to the scenery. Too bright. Lifts are confusing.

I actually nice the settings. We already have very lacking alfresco clubs to begin with - thanks to noise pollution licensing issues. I could do with 1 less boxed up concept. As for the confusion.. St James was huge and inter-connected. People couldn't link their way around and prefer to head for the carpark and just walk around the whole building. Now everyone is a tourguide within the premises.

5. Their music festival starts this week and lotsa big names (Chemical Brothers, Boy George, Daddy G...) are playing. Tickets cost $83?? Which is expensive... by why not pop by. Smiley Smiley

If you favour their music, it's a bargain. If not, it could be a over-priced event better spent elsewhere.

Yeh the shape of the place, makes it hard to feel the sound. A lot of dead spots.

The high pricing is dependent I guess on the spending from tourists, gambling or staying at casinos. So if the tourism / F1 / ang moh angle is sustainable, then it should be fine. Prob wont find lotsa locals here, given that Filter already took up the local ah seah crowd.

Hope they can iron out the kinks, esp the sound for the DJs this week. Chemicals, Daddy G and many others all playing. LMFAO is playing in the conference hall for the Avalon Go!  festival?

Everyday we're shuffling>>>
